Trip overview

Move west from Tokyo to Kanazawa, continue through Shirakawa-go to Takayama, then descend towards Kyoto via Nagoya. Late October to November departures offer different colour patterns; mountain villages and Kyoto rarely reach their seasonal peak together.

  • Kenroku-en’s landscaped paths
  • Shirakawa-go village stop
  • Takayama’s old merchant streets
  • Ginkaku-ji’s hillside garden
  • Kiyomizu-dera and Kyoto maples
